Welcome to Robin Cotler Dance Center! We offer dance classes in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida for all ages. We specialize in Hip Hop, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Contemporary. Class size at RCDC is limited according to specific age levels. A class consists of a minimum of 4 students. Classes that meet the maximum class size will be closed and a waiting list will be formed. This is to assure that every child is giving the proper attention and to provide you with the best possible dance education.
The following specialty dance programs have been developed exclusively by Robin Cotler for children ages 2-5 years old. They have been successfully taught in the Western New York area for over 30 years with great success.
LIL’ MOVERS N’ SHAKERS: This class has been developed for the 2 year old and is the first in a series of classes for preschooler’s to introduce them to the dance arts and develop creativity. This class one hour in length. The first 1/2 of the class we do song and dance movements that develop large motor skills, creativity, and coordination. The remainder of the class is dedicated to arts, crafts and song. The goal of this class is to assist your toddler in socialization while having lots of fun with their new friends. Class attire consists of any color leotard and tights for girls, shorts/sweatpants and t-shirt for boys, pink ballet slippers for girls and black for the boys. Class size is limited to 6.
MOVIN’ & GROOVIN’: This class is geared for the 3 year old and introduces them to the fundamentals of tap, ballet and creative movement. The concentration of this class is dance, music appreciation, creativity, motor skill development, acting, and socialization in a fun instructional atmosphere. Attire may be any color leotard and tights, hair pulled back, tan buckle strap tap shoes and pink ballet slippers. For the boys any color sweatpants/shorts and white t-shirt, black oxford style taps and black ballet/jazz shoe. Class size is limited to 8.
STEPPIN’ STARS: This class is the third in RCDC pre-school program and has been developed for the 4 year old. This hour long class consists of 1/2 tap and 20 minutes of jazz/ballet with the remainder of class dedicated to their own creative exploration to rhythms and movement. The socialization and team building they develop with their new friends is great for their self-confidence. Attire for the girls may be any color leotard and tights, hair pulled back, tan buckle strap tap shoes and pink ballet slippers. For the boys any color sweatpants/shorts and white t-shirt, black oxford style taps and black ballet/jazz shoe. Class size is limited to 10.
DANCE IS ME: This class offers students the opportunity to explore various forms of dance and is the fourth in the RCDC preschool program. Tap, Jazz, Ballet, and Acro will all be incorporated together giving younger students a chance to try all forms of dance rather than just one. They will present a tap routine in the year end recital. This program has been developed for the 5 year old or for the beginning 6 year old that would like to explore various styles of dance in one class. Class attire for the girls can be any color leotard and tights, tan buckle strap tap shoes, pink ballet slippers with hair pulled back. Class attire for the boys is black shorts or sweatpants and white t-shirt, black oxford style taps and black jazz shoes. Class size is limited to 12.
ACRO: A more athletic form of dance involving stretching, floorwork andtumbling. Designed to enhance a dancer’s flexibility. Attire may be any color leotard, footless tights or jazz pants, foot thong shoes and hairpulled back. Ages 6 to adult.
BALLET/POINTE: The basis of all forms of dance. It develops and strengthens good body placement by emphasizing structured technique and positioning of the dancer. Attire may be any solid color leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slipper/pointe shoes, and hair in bun. Ballet ages 6 to adult, pointe ages to be determined by RCDC teaching staff.
CHEERDANCE: Cheerleading combined with dancing make this an exciting and enthusiastic style of expression. Jazz, Acrobatics, Cheerleading, Mounting and Hip-Hop skills are developed in the dancer. Attire may be any solid color tank top, spandex pants, leggings, shorts, hair pulled back and white cheerleading sneakers. No street shoes allowed. Ages 6 to adult.
HIP-HOP: A cross between Jazz and Break Dance that developed in the 1990′s due to a change in music styles. With the popularity of the music video culture it has become the newest dance craze. Attire may be any solid color tank top and spandex pants, black jazz sneakers, hair pulled back. No street shoes allowed. Ages 6 to adult.
JAZZ: A form stylized theatrical dancing given birth by the established and varied techniques of dance. Jazz allows the dancer a wider freedom of expression and movement, and still adheres to the basic principals of correct posture and placement of the body. Attire may be any solid color leotard, footless tights or spandex pants, leggings, shorts, hair pulled back, and black pull-on jazz boots . Ages 6 to adult.
MUSICAL THEATER: A form of entertainment in which dancing, songs, dialogue and humor are combined. Attire may be any solid color leotard, tights or spandex pants, leggings, and hair pulled back. Tap variation character tap shoes, Jazz variation character shoe. Ages 6 to adult.
TAP: A series of regulated and controlled rhythmical movements of the body. Of all of the forms of dance tap benefits the dancer with an excellent sense of rhythm. Attire may be any solid color leotard, tights or spandex pants, leggings and hair pulled back. Black oxford style tap shoe. Ages 6 to adult.
MODERN: A form of dance which is predicated on creativity and self-expression. It builds strength and should give the dancer an overall understanding of the body mechanics. Attire may be any solid color leotard, footless tights or spandex pants, leggings or shorts and hair pulled back. Ages 9 to adult.
CONTEMPORARY: Is a fusion of variety of techniques and styles of dance that determine how a movement or step is executed, what muscle action initiates and achieves the movement, what timing is involved using underlying innuendos in the music or story, and what expression is given to the movement. It works off of the creativity of the dancer and choreographer. It explores movement at a level of discovery and connection, to the movement, and to your inner self as the performer. It focuses on primal instinctive type movement that is brought to life by a well trained dancer. Class attire can be any solid color leotard, footless tights and/or spandex pants, leggings or shorts and barefoot. Ages 9 to adult.
